The article discusses typical persuasive strategies used by leading producers of contraceptives on their websites and on the websites of particular contraceptive products from the media-linguistic point of view. The purpose of the paper is to examine illocutions, text-clusters and the text-image relation through which the author wants to persuade about the quality of his products and to present arguments for using hormonal contraception. ZASTOSOWANIE I OGRANICZENIA TECHNOLOGII INFORMACYJNYCH W DIAGNOSTYCE MEDYCZNEJ

The article presents an overview of common uses of information technology in medicine and medical diagnostics, also pointing out major obstacles in the process of introducing information technology in the fields above . Information technology tools widely used in medicine include but are not limited to databases, decision algorithms and data processing and mining methods. Major obstacles include heterogeneity of medical data, their complexity and free text descriptions of procedures, diagnoses and interpretations of test results.Artykuł zawiera przegląd zastosowań nowoczesnej technologii informacyjnej w medycynie i diagnostyce oraz wskazuje trudności na drodze postępującej informatyzacji wyżej wymienionych dziedzin . ZASTOSOWANIE APROKSYMACJI WIELOMIANOWEJ DO WYZNACZANIA ZAŁOMKÓW EKG

To succesfully implement a telemedical system for diagnostic purposes it is necessary to verify the diagnostic value of the decision algorithms used to detect life threatening situations. ECG analysis is a useful tool for obtaining information about the overall patient condition, especially for the circulatory system. Proper recognition cannot be performed without creation of proper models, The first step is signal filtration and data preparation, followed by parameter extraction, comparison with the model and diagnosis presentation. Each of these steps reqires a certain approach to minimize the error. Proper filtration needs to be performed. Then, the QRS complex is detected and rythm is calculated. Afterwards, the remaining waves are detected. To be able to perform valuable time dependencies it is necessary to exactly mark the beginnings and ends of intervals. The proposed method is based on opproximating the signal around the wave with a polynomial of a certain degree. This allows detection of inflection points corresponding to the borders of the wave. The method was applied to a set of ECG signals recorced during rest and activity, the results are presented and discussed.W celu wdrożenia elementów systemu telemedycznego związanego z diagnostyką [3], konieczne jest wcześniejsze zweryfikowanie wartości diagnostycznej algorytmów decyzyjnych odpowiedzialnych za wykrywanie stanów zagrożenia życia. Analiza przebiegu EKG jest w stanie dać informację o wielu takich stanach związanych z zaburzeniami układu krążenia [8]. W tym celu konieczne jest podjęcie szeregu działań prowadzących do budowy odpowiednich modeli. Pierwszym krokiem jest filtracja i przygotowanie danych [1], następnie ekstrakcja parametrów z przebiegów EKG, analiza wyników, porównanie ich z posiadanymi modelami oraz postawienie diagnozy. Każdy z tych kroków wymaga zastosowania odpowiedniego podejścia w celu zminimalizowania popełnianego błędu [4], wynikającego z niekiedy znacznie zniekształconego sygnału [7]. W celu ekstrakcji parametrów czasowych z odfiltrowanego i przygotowanego sygnału EKG konieczne jest najpierw wykrycie załomka R w zespole QRS [6], następnie wyznaczenie załomków P, Q, S, T i znalezienie ich początku i końca oraz określenie interesujących nas interwałów [2]. Zaproponowana tutaj metoda bazuje na aproksymacji przebiegu w oknie czasowym zawierającym dany załomek wielomianem określonego rzędu. Takie podejście pozwala następnie na wyznaczenie punktów przegięcia i, co za tym idzie, granic załomka. Metoda została zastosowana do przetwarzania przebiegów zarejestrowanych w warunkach laboratoryjnych w spoczynku i w trakcie kontrolowanego wysiłku, wyniki zostały porównane i przedstawione w niniejszej pracy

Der Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit dem Gebrauch von Äußerungstypen, in denen sich Autoren in Internetforen in ihren argumentativen Handlungen auf ihre Konfession berufen. Untersucht werden vor allem Äußerungsmuster wie Ich bin katholisch / evangelisch / protestantisch, aber … Ziel des Beitrags ist, diese Muster kontrastiv im deutsch-polnischen Vergleich zu präsentieren. Insbesondere geht es hier um die Untersuchung ihrer Funktionen (z. B. Signalisierung und Demonstration von intellektueller Unabhängigkeit, von kritischer Einstellung, Offenheit oder Toleranz) sowie ihrer thematischen Ebene. Die Analyse stellt einen interdisziplinären Beitrag für die Erforschung des aktuellen Phänomens der Patchwork-Religion dar.The article discusses the utterances, coming from internet forums, in which the sender in his argumentative text appeals to his religious confession. The purpose of the paper is to examine the phrases such as I’m a catholic / evangelical / protestant, but … In the contrastive analysis the function of these phrases in German and Polish internet forums (e.g. signaling and demonstrating intellectual independence, critical attitude openness and tolerance) and their propositional contents have been considered. The analysis is an interdisciplinary contribution to the research on the patchwork-religiosity phenomenon.Artykuł poddaje analizie wypowiedzi zaczerpnięte z forów internetowych, w których nadawca powołuje się w tekście argumentacyjnym na swoje wyznanie religijne. Rola kompetencji retorycznej w kształceniu i pracy tłumacza

The purpose of this article is to present the idea of rhetoric and rhetorical competence in the process of translation. The main emphasis is laid on competence concerning efficiency, esthetics and the quality of transfer of meaning in translation. The article presents both the idea of rhetoric with rhetorical competence and its elements. My initial assumption is that the process of translating itself is a complex act as regards relations. Rhetoric is perceived here as an attempt to exert an influence in order to achieve communicative agreement. Competence is a practical ability to apply means of improving communication efficiency. The importance of basic rhetorical abilities of the interpreter which contribute to deepening communicativeness and efficiency of message transfer will be presented. Rhetorical aspects of the transfer of message in the process of translation such as argumentation, working on the voice, competence in conversations and speeches as well as intercultural competence will be discussed. All the aforementioned aspects are relevant for simultaneous consecutive interpreting (unilateral and bilateral). These considerations are to create inspiration to extend the perspective of interpreters’ training. In the final part of the article a model of interpreters’ training considering aspects of rhetorical education is presented. The model emphasizes the importance of rhetorical competence in the mother tongue and the foreign language. The model assumes close relationship among its particular elements as shortages in one domain of competence are reflected in others.Artykuł porusza zagadnienia retoryczności oraz kompetencji retorycznej w procesie tłumaczenia konsekutywnego i symultanicznego. Omówione zostały jej elementy szczególnie istotne z punktu widzenia efektywności, estetyki i jakości transferu sensu w tłumaczeniu. Do najważniejszych zaliczone zostały argumentacja, praca nad głosem, kompetencja w rozmowie i przemawianiu oraz komunikacja interkulturowa. Przedstawiony został model kompetencji tłumacza, stanowiący jednocześnie postulat szerszego uwzględnienia aspektów kompetencji retorycznej w programach kształcenia tłumaczy

ANALIZA ZASTOSOWANIA FILTRÓW WSZECHPRZEPUSTOWYCH DO ELIMINACJI NEGATYWNYCH SKUTKÓW TENDENCJI LOUDNESS WAR

In this paper the influence of all-pass filters on musical material with applied hypercompression dynamics (loudness war trend) was analyzed. These filters are characterized by shifting phase in selected frequency band of signal, not by change of their amplitude levels. Because a lot of music information is present in music tracks, the dynamic range was tested together with influence of other sound parameters like selectivity or instruments’ arrangement on scene, by running subjective tests on a group of respondents.W artykule przeanalizowana wpływ filtrów wszechprzepustowych na materiał muzyczny z zastosowaną hiperkompresją sygnału (tendencją loudness war). Filtry tego typu, charakteryzują się przesunięciem w fazie składowych częstotliwościowych, sygnału, a nie zmianą poziomu ich amplitudy. Ze względu na dużą ilość informacji w utworach muzycznych, prócz sprawdzenia zakresu dynamiki poprzez testy obiektywne, zbadano również wpływ na inne parametry dźwięku takie jak selektywność czy rozłożenie instrumentów na scenie, poprzez testy subiektywne na grupie respondentów. &nbsp

APPLICATIONS OF MODERN IMAGING TECHNOLOGY IN ORTHOPAEDIC TRAUMA SURGERY

Orthopaedic trauma surgery is a complex surgical speciality in which anatomy, physiology and physics are mixed. Proper diagnosing and based on that planning and performing surgery is of crucial matter. This article briefly summarizes available radiological modalities used for diagnostics and for surgical planning. It focuses on utility of rapid prototyping process in trauma surgery. Moreover, a case study in which this technique was used is described. Rapid prototyping proved its usefulness and in future it may become a modality of choice for planning complex trauma procedures.&nbsp

The latest applications of photoplethysmography

The development of medicine and the ability to conduct effective therapy in increasingly severe cases createthe need to develop new methods of continuous and non-invasive monitoring of the patient’s condition. One ofthe techniques that is widely used in many fields of medicine is photoplethysmography (PPG). The analysis ofthe latest research indicates that PPG can have much more applications than the measurement of heart rateand arterial saturation of the patient — as shown by the latest research, it can be used in the measurementof many other key parameters.The optimism is the multitude of areas in which PPG monitoring is attempted. There are more and more attemptsto use photoplethysmography in diagnosis and evaluation of peripheral vascular diseases, assessment ofcirculation in diabetic patients and assessment of endothelial function. Authors are focusing on new applicationsof PPG, its advantages and limitations. Most of them agree that PPG can provide useful knowledge about thepatient’s condition while being a quick, easy-to-use and cost-effective technique.The following review was created to critically analyze the latest technical developments and uses of PPG inclinical practice. ELECTROCARDIOGRAM GENERATION SOFTWARE FOR TESTING OF PARAMETER EXTRACTION ALGORITHMS

Fast and automated ECG diagnosis is of great benefit for treatment of cardiovascular and other conditions. The algorithms used to extract parameters need to be precise, robust and efficient. Appropriate training and testing methods for such algorithms need to be implemented for optimal results. This paper presents a software solution for computer ECG generation and a simplified concept of testing process. All the parameters of the resulting generated signal can be tweaked and set properly. Such software can also be beneficial for training and educational use
